1Welcome and important notes

The HS713 Pyrotechnics App lets you put on your own fireworks shows and firewalls (napalm-style airshow fire lines) anywhere in the world in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Everything is done from the app on the EFB tablet: build a show second by second or start from a preset, place it in front of you, and press Play. A firewall can be a straight line, a ring, or letters and numbers, and it can go off by itself as you fly past.

What's in the box

Important notes

Only you can see it. The effects are created on your own computer or console. Other players in multiplayer, and anyone watching from another session, will not see or hear them.
"You" means your aircraft, not the camera. When the app says "in front of me", "at my position" or "face me", it uses your aircraft (or your character when you walk outside). The drone and free cameras are not tracked. See section 3.
Simulation only. This is entertainment software for a flight simulator. Nothing in it or in this manual is advice about real fireworks, explosives or airshow pyrotechnics. Real pyrotechnics are dangerous and must only be handled by licensed professionals under local law.

2Getting started

Install the package as you would any other add-on (from the Marketplace, or into your Community folder if you were given a test build). Start a flight. Any aircraft will do.
Open the EFB tablet and tap the HS713 Pyrotechnics App icon (the orange spark over the HS713 tag).
Choose what to make. On the home page tap Create display: Pyrotechnics for a fireworks show or Create display: Firewall for a firewall.
Build it (or pick a preset), then tap Place show or Place firewall. It appears in the world in front of you, 150 m away by default.
Press Play next to it on the home page. A show starts within a few seconds; a firewall lights about 2 seconds after you press Play.
The home page: create buttons, displays you have placed, and My Shows.

Use ‹ Back at the top left of any page to return to the home page, and ? How it works at the top right for a short help page about the screen you are on.

Displays stay where you put them, anywhere in the world, and are remembered between flights. They only play while you are within about 8 km of them.

Shows burst roughly 100 to 160 m above the ground. They look best at night or at dusk, seen from a little way back.

3Where "you" are: placement and distance

Every "in front of me" button works from where you are and which way you are facing. The app reads this from:

The drone and free cameras are not tracked. The sim does not tell the tablet where the drone camera is. In camera mode, "Place in front of me", "Face me", "At my position" and the preview pads all work from the parked aircraft. If you fly the camera to the far side of a display, it can look back to front.
Best practice: set up from the cockpit, or on foot, standing where you want the audience to be. Once something is placed it stays put, so you can then watch from any camera you like.

Distance in front of me

The Distance in front of me setting chooses how far away "in front of me" places things. It is on the home page (under My Shows), in the show editor and in the firewall editor, and it is the same setting everywhere.

Tip: for watching from the ground use 150 to 300 m. For a show you will fly past or watch from the air, try 500 m or more so it's well clear of the runway.

4The home page

Create display

Firewall opens the firewall editor (section 9). Pyrotechnics opens the show editor (section 5).

Placed

Everything you have placed in the world, with its distance and direction from you, and its status:

StatusMeaning
ReadyYou are close enough. Press Play.
Armed for flybyA firewall with Flyby turned on. It will go off by itself when you fly past (section 10), or press Play.
Too far to playYou are more than about 8 km away. Fly or walk closer.
Too many nearbyOther displays close by are using all of the sim's launchers. Stop or remove one, or move away from the crowd.

Each row has Play (start it now), Stop, Edit (change it; the changes apply when you tap Update) and Remove (take it out of the world for good).

My Shows

Your saved shows and firewalls (section 8). Place in front of me puts a fresh copy in the world at the chosen distance. Edit opens it in the editor. Delete asks you to tap again to be sure.

5Building a fireworks show

A new show is centered in front of you at the chosen distance and faces back toward you. The editor shows it from above as a circle about 240 m across, with the audience (you) at the bottom.

The show pad: each dot is a shell, colored by its color.
The shell picker: choose a category, a shell type, then a color.

Name and save

Tap Name it to give the show a name. Save to My Shows keeps it for later. An Unsaved changes label shows when there is something not yet saved.

Choose a shell

  1. Tap the category button to pick a family: Peonies and spheres, Layered and rings, Shapes, Willows/palms/trails, Effects, Ground, Logos, Flags.
  2. Tap a tile to choose the shell type.
  3. Tap a color chip (red, blue, gold, green, purple, white, silver, or a color combination for multi-color types).

Place shells on the pad

Tap inside the circle to place the chosen shell at the time shown on the time cursor. Shells with the same time go off together. Tap an existing dot to select it.

The time cursor

Change or delete a shell

Select a dot (or tap Edit in the Shells in firing order list at the bottom). Then tap a tile or color to change it, tap the circle to move it, change its Firing time with the ±0.5 s and ±1 s buttons, or tap Delete shell. Tap Done to go back to adding shells.

Undo, clear and place

Undo takes back your last change (including adding a preset). Clear empties the show. Place show puts it in the world; when editing a display that is already placed, the button reads Update display.

Too many of one kind at once? The sim can only have so many shells of the same family in the air at the same moment (32 for the original types, 24 for each group of newer types, 4 for logos and 4 for each set of flags). If you go over, the app tells you. Move the time cursor to a quieter moment or spread the shells out by half a second.

6Launch angle and preview shots

Shells normally fly straight up. Tap Launch angle: straight up to open the angle panel and lean them.

The angle panel and a 15° preview shot in the sim.

Tip: comets and fountains look great in fans. Place five comets at the same time across the pad, lean the outer ones 30° left and right and the middle one straight up.

7Presets

Presets are ready-made shows. Pick Add to my show or Replace my show first, then tap a preset.

You can add several presets, one after another or on top of each other, and then add or change shells by hand.

PresetLengthWhat you get
HS713 Demo60 s, 190 shellsOur showcase: every shell type at least twice, vertical, angled and criss-cross launches, low and high, near and far, building to a huge all-silver finale with strobes, Flying Fish and salutes. Uses most of the launchers, so give it room from other displays.
Flyby Salute20 sRed, white and blue peonies, a row of salutes, then a Giant Peony. Made to go off as a formation passes.
Airshow Opener45 sGold fountains, a rainbow of peonies, silver comets, heart/star/ring shapes, willows, salutes and two Giant Peonies to close.
Stars and Stripes50 sRed, white and blue fountains, peonies and comets, the American Flag logo, then a red, gold and blue finale.
Night Garden55 sA slow, pretty show of chrysanthemums, dahlias, pistils, double rings, color changes, falling leaves, horsetails and kamuro.
Big Finale10 s, 96 shellsEverything at once: 96 shells over 10 seconds, spread across many shell types. As big as the sim can handle in one go.
HS713 Finale60 sStrobes, gold and silver peonies, gold comets, the HS713 logo, willows, three Giant Peonies and salutes.

Export and Import (PC only)

Share your shows with friends, or keep a backup, as small .pyroshow files.

Where the folder is (paste the line into the File Explorer address bar):

Microsoft Store: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\WASM\MSFS2024\bfg-efb-pyroapp\work
Steam: %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\WASM\MSFS2024\bfg-efb-pyroapp\work
Privacy: the app only lists, reads and writes files ending in .pyroshow inside that one folder. It doesn't read any other file on your computer and doesn't send anything over the internet. On Xbox there is no way to reach the folder, so Export and Import are hidden.

9Building a firewall

A line firewall going off all at once beside the runway.

Shape

ShapeHow it works
LineA straight row of 1 to 47 stations, 5 to 50 m apart (25 m by default; 47 stations at 25 m is about 1.15 km). "In front of me" lays the line across your view.
RingThe same stations arranged in a circle around the spot. The page shows how wide the ring is.
Letters and numbersType up to 16 characters: A to Z, 0 to 9 and spaces. Each character is drawn in dots, and each dot is a fireball. The letters lie flat on the ground and read correctly from where you were when you placed the firewall or pressed Face me.

Words: all at once or spell it out

Fireball style

StyleLookBurns for
Napalm wallThe full airshow fireball with rolling flame.10.5 s
Big fireballA larger fireball without the ground flame.10.5 s
Quick popA smaller, short fireball.4 s
Low flameA lower fireball with ground flame.7 s

Firing order

10Flyby triggers

Turn on Flyby: on in the firewall editor and the firewall goes off by itself as you fly past. You must be flying the aircraft: off the ground and low. The drone camera does not count.

FirewallHow to set it off
Line, flying along itFly along the line below 500 ft above the ground, within 80 m of it, faster than about 15 kt. Each station lights just behind you as you pass, chasing your aircraft down the line. Works in either direction.
Line, flying across itCross over the line below 800 ft. The whole line goes off, spreading out both ways from where you crossed.
Ring or wordFly over it, or close to it, below 800 ft. It goes off in its firing order.

After going off, a flyby firewall is ready again about 25 seconds later, so you can come round for another pass. With Flyby off (or on), Play on the home page fires it any time.

Lining up for a pass down the runway.

11Sound

Every shell has its own sounds: the thump of the launch, the break in the air, and any crackle, hiss or glitter afterwards. Firewalls have their own fireball booms.

The 300 m rule

Microsoft Flight Simulator only plays these sounds within about 300 m of where they come from. Without help, a show 1 km away would be silent. So the app carries the sound with you:

What this means for you: past 250 m, a display does not get quieter as you move away, and the sound is not delayed by distance (it arrives at the same moment you see the burst). This is a limit of the sim, and it keeps every show audible.

12Worked examples

Example 1: A two-minute preset show at your home airport

Park at the airport at night and step out of the aircraft. Walk to where you want to watch from and face the open field.
Open the app, set Distance in front of me to 200 m, and tap Create display: Pyrotechnics.
Tap Replace my show, then Airshow Opener. Tap Add to my show, move the time cursor to 0:45 and tap Big Finale.
Tap Name it, type HOME SHOW, then Save to My Shows, then Place show.
On the home page press Play. Switch to any camera you like and enjoy.

Example 2: Build a show by hand

Create a new show. Pick Peonies and spheres → Large Peony → Red.
Set After each tap, move ahead to 0.5 s. Tap the pad 6 times from left to right: a quick red chain.
Change the color to Blue and tap 6 more times right to left. You now have a 6-second back-and-forth.
Set the move-ahead back to Off. Jump forward 2 s with +1 +1, choose Willows → Willow and tap 5 dots across the pad for a willow curtain.
Add 3 Giant Peony, Gold at the same time to finish, then Preview shot one to check it. Save and place.

Example 3: A fan of comets

Choose Ground → Comet → Silver and put the time cursor on 0:00.
Open Launch angle. Set 45°, Left, and tap once on the left of the pad. Set 25° Left and tap again.
Set Straight up and tap in the middle. Then 25° Right, and 45° Right, tapping each time on the right.
Tap Preview shot to check, then repeat at 0:01 in gold for a second fan.

Example 4: A firewall pass for an airshow

Line up on the runway, facing down it. In the firewall editor choose Line, 47 stations, 25 m spacing, Napalm wall.
Tap At my position: the line starts at your aircraft and runs down the runway the way you face. Use Turn ±15° if you want it alongside the runway instead.
Make sure Flyby: on, then Place firewall.
Take off, come round, and fly down the line below 500 ft. The fire chases you along it. Come round again after 25 s for another pass, or cross it for an all-at-once blast.

Example 5: Spell your callsign

Stand where the crowd would be. In the firewall editor choose Letters and numbers, tap Type word and enter, for example, N713HS.
Choose Spell it out with 1.5 s between characters, Quick pop, and a dot spacing of 15 to 20 m.
Set the distance to 400 m, tap Place in front of me, check the preview pad reads correctly, and tap Place firewall.
Press Play and watch from the air above where you stood, looking the same way, so the letters read the right way round.

Example 6: Take your show to another airport

Start a flight anywhere. Open the app and set the distance you want.
Under My Shows, tap Place in front of me next to your saved show. It appears there, facing you.
Press Play. Your original saved show is unchanged, ready for next time.

14Troubleshooting and FAQ

I pressed Play and nothing happened.

Check the status on the home page. "Too far to play" means you are more than about 8 km away. "Too many nearby" means other displays nearby are using the sim's launchers: stop or remove one. A show may take a few seconds to start the first time.

The display is in the wrong place or facing the wrong way.

You were probably in drone or free camera mode. The app uses your aircraft, not the camera (section 3). Go back to the cockpit or walk outside, then use Place in front of me or Face me.

My flyby firewall didn't go off.

You must be flying the aircraft, off the ground: below 500 ft and within 80 m when flying along a line, or below 800 ft when crossing a line or passing over a ring or word. Wait about 25 seconds between passes. Make sure the status shows "Armed for flyby".

I can't hear anything.

Check that the sim's sound and effects volume are up. Sound is played as described in section 11; sound effects can take a moment to load the first time after starting a flight.

A preset went somewhere else in my show.

In Add mode, if the time cursor spot is too busy, the preset is placed straight after the end of your show. The app tells you the new time. Use Undo to take it out.

"That puts too many shells of one kind in the air at the same moment."

Spread those shells out by half a second or more, or mix in different shell types.

My word doesn't fit.

All at once allows up to 47 fireballs. Use fewer or simpler characters, or switch to Spell it out (up to 94).

My friend in multiplayer can't see my show.

That is expected. The effects only exist on your own computer or console.

Import shows says no show files were found.

Check the file ends in .pyroshow and sits directly in the app's folder (not in a sub-folder or a zip), then tap Refresh. File names may use letters, numbers, spaces, - _ ( ) and dots only.

Do I need to keep the tablet open?

No. Once placed, displays and armed firewalls keep working with the tablet closed.
